Joseph Howe is a cellist based in Boulder, Colorado. He is the principal cellist of the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, with whom he recently appeared as a concerto soloist, and the assistant principal cellist of the Greeley Philharmonic. He performs on period cello with Boulder Bach Festival’s Core Ensemble. He has also recently performed with the New World Symphony in Miami, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, and the Boulder Philharmonic. As a chamber musician, he can be heard regularly at the Trinity Alps Music Festival in Northern California and on the chamber music series of the Boulder Chamber Orchestra.
Joseph has participated in many festivals as an orchestral and chamber musician, including National Repertory Orchestra, American Bach Soloists Academy, Texas Music Festival, Mendocino Music Festival, and Hot Springs Music Festival.
Joseph holds degrees from University of Oregon, where he studied with Steven Pologe, and University of Colorado at Boulder, where he studied with Judith Glyde. His other mentors include Amos Yang, David Requiro, Bruce McIntosh, and Guy Fishman. He has performed in masterclasses for many distinguished artists, including Lynn Harrell, Johannes Moser, Alban Gerhardt, Alisa Weilerstein, and members of the Ying, Emerson, and Takács quartets.
Joseph is dedicated to teaching young musicians. In addition to serving as a teaching assistant at CU Boulder, he has held teaching positions at Red Rocks Community College, Boulder Valley Waldorf School, Parlando School of Musical Arts, and Greater Boulder Youth Orchestras.
