Michael Smith (age 17) currently studies violin with Mr. Edward Dusinberre and Ms. Harumi Rhodes of the Takács Quartet. Michael is a senior at the Denver School of the Arts and will be attending the Aspen Music Festival and School in the summer 2022, and the Rice University Shepherd School of Music in the fall of 2022 as a violin major in the studio of Mr. Paul Kantor.
Previously, he was a student of Mr. Erik Peterson of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Michael spent his summer 2019 & 2021 (virtual) at the Meadowmount School of Music studying under Professor Gerardo Ribeiro, and previously attended the Junior Programs and String Quartet Intensive from 2015 to 2018, and 2021 at Rocky Ridge Music Center. He made his orchestral debut at the age of 12 with the Greater Boulder Youth Orchestra as the winner of the Concerto Competition. Michael has been a member of the Denver Young Artist Orchestra since 2017, and was concertmaster in 2021 & 2022. He also served as co-concertmaster of the GBYO under the baton of Maestro Gary Lewis, and is currently the concertmaster at the Denver School of the Arts Advanced Orchestra. Michael was a finalist in the Jefferson Symphony Young Artist Competition and the Young Musicians Foundation of Colorado, and the Boulder Bach Competition. In addition to violin, Michael takes pleasure in playing soccer, skiing, noodling around on the piano, traveling, and eating.
